Heart's Desire - Part 1

The story of our lives has a future that we cannot fully see, but we can be assured that God has already been there, preparing the place and the path for us. This is prevenient grace that is always a step ahead of us, preceding us into our unseeable future. We can recognize this reality when we look back and realize how God was there with us all along, preparing us for what we have already encountered along the journey. And while we can’t know the future in full, I believe he gives us clues to prepare us to live our best life.

Your heart desire is one of those clues that has the potential to form you, determine your future, and impact the world. These true desires feel like a longing for something divine, a prayer that has been planted within you by the hand of God.

What does your heart desire in your life today? How have your past experiences led to this desire? Does it come with a sense of calling? Maybe you desire relief from a difficult challenge or a confusion in your life. Where does the desire lead?  Is it toward God’s wisdom, grace, and love, or does it take you away from God into areas of hurt, revenge, or compulsive habits of self-comfort?  All desires, positive or negative, turned toward God become acts of prayer and opportunity to listen to the Divine calling toward wholeness.
