Soul Searching and Spiritual Direction
There’s hardly a week passes that we are not faced with events that leave us wondering about some aspect of life. Whether we are left aghast or heartbroken, wounded or mourning, angry or fed up, we may begin to wonder about our perspectives, our choices, our way of living and being in the world. We attempt to live our best lives, to offer love and compassion in our own corner of the world, but we may wonder if it is enough, or whether it makes a difference at all.
And if we’re serious about discerning the truth in it all, we may stop long enough to pray for the mercy and graces needed to blaze a trail through the entanglement of the soul. This soul-searching is a part of our human experience and one that Jesus himself experienced and honored in all those he met along the way. He did this through the soul-searching questions he asked of those he encountered, beginning with his first followers when he asked, “What are you looking for?” And over the next three years, the questions continued, “Where is your faith?…Why do you call me Lord?… Why are you afraid?…Who do you say that I am ?… What do you want me to do?… How do you read the scriptures?… Can you drink the cup I drink?”
What are you looking for? There’s a question I can sit with every day and listen to Jesus ask it of me? What are you looking for in your life? In your work? In your relationships? In your community? In your faith? In your God?
I invite you to spend some time with any one of these questions that seem to fit your soul today and search for your own response and offer it as prayer. These are soul-searching days that continually call us to turn our hearts and minds and souls to the One who knows us best and loves us most.
I would be honored to journey with you through your soul-searching as a spiritual companion. Click here to read more about the gift of Spiritual Direction. Let’s find a time to discuss the possibility.
May it be well with your soul today.
