Heart's Desire - Part 2
It’s all fine and well to say follow your heart’s desire… if you know what your heart is desiring. Remember, your heart desire is more than just your desire to escape a current problem. It is more than finding a cure to your boredom. It takes some time, reflection, and pondering to get in touch with that deep desire or where it may be calling you. Parker Palmer in his classic book “Let your Life Speak” says, “Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am.”
Knowing our heart desire isn’t something left to chance. It find’s it’s greatest power at the confluence of life experience, of how one is wired, and how one has suffered along the way. I remember looking up the word “passion” in the dictionary one day and realizing that it was synonymous with suffering. The suffering we experience eventually becomes the joy we experience by allowing our places of wounding to come along side others as comfort in their hurt or hunger.
Other clues lead us to consider desire as well. Remember what fascinated you as a child? What curiosities drove you to explore? Remember books, movies, speeches, or art that inspired you, moved you, changed you? Is there a common thread among all these remembrances and with your passion? Pull on that thread a little and see where it leads.
I’d love to partner with you to hear what your heart desire is telling you and where it may be leading you. Send me a message, or comment here.
