In Between
The week between Christmas and New Years is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. In the rhythm of my life, I’ve scheduled at least a day if not the entire week as an intentional, prayerful pause to reflect on the year past and welcome the year to come. I take time to read through my journal, highlighting significant thoughts, insights, words, themes, that speak about my journey through the year. I offer these thoughts as prayer and a final entry in my journal as I reflect on it all. How have a changed? Where am I growing and what is still in process? What feels left undone? What can I leave behind?
And it all leads to a place of hope and healing, a sacred space bridging the past life to the coming life. I bless it all and carry it within me and pray it becomes seeds for an eventual blooming and harvest in days to come. I also mark this time with my intentions and desires for the coming year, responding to all that I’ve gathered up in my reflection with the question, “How then shall I live?” What are the spiritual practices, the supportive relationships, the inward and outward work that welcomes me to participate more fully in the Divine nature?
These reflections will become the centerpiece for my next conversation with my spiritual director. And over the coming months, together we will listen to how God is leading me forward and showing up in my daily life. How about you? Will this be the year you look deeper and open wider to all that God is speaking into your heart and soul? The spiritual practice of meeting with a director is a practice of soul-care and self-care that equips us to engage more deeply in the life we’re given to live.
As always, I welcome the opportunity to sit with you as your spiritual director, to be a listening presence on your own journey. What are you hearing during this week in-between? Feel free to send me an email, or go ahead and schedule an hour conversation with me here. Creating welcoming space for you is my greatest delight.
Blessings in 2021!
