LOVE: Week Two - Advent Guided Meditation: Conceived

Conceived

“And now you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High…and of his kingdom there will be no end…for nothing is impossible with God.”

Luke 1:31-33, 37

Conceiving anything, be it a child, an idea, or a new beginning, is never done alone, but only in collaboration with another. Even when we create something in isolation, the ability and source of creativity comes from the Master Creator. And our expressions of new life arise from all that has preceded us and been given to us from others. A plant cannot grow except from the seed given from another plant, and another plant before that throughout history.

  • I take a moment to come to a place of quietness, shifting away for these few minutes from the hurried life ahead of me, or behind me, or within me, as I enter the dwelling place of Divine presence. I slow my breathing, make my body comfortable and relaxed and rest for a moment here.

  • As I come to this meditation, I do so by entering through an imagined stream of creativity flowing from the Giver of every good and perfect gift, the source of all life, love, and thought. The stream may take any form – water, wind, clouds, pathways – but I take time to enjoy being in this creative stream. I notice sights and sounds as well as my response to it all.

  • In this stream I am endowed with new possibilities in my own life. I am overjoyed by the excitement of new life as I explore the “what ifs,” and the invitations to explore new paths. I allow God-given possibilities to take seed within me, to send down first tiny roots, then larger roots to stabilize and nurture this new thing growing within me.

  • This new life grows from the womb of deep desire for something more to come in partnership with the Divine. I listen in stillness to the voice of that desire waiting to be born and I give that desire a name. I welcome the desire still being formed within me. I bless it as sacred gift, and ascribe words of value to this new life.

  • I end my meditation with the words that affirm new life and all creation, “For nothing is impossible with God.” Amen.

Blessing

May you find joy living in the stream of God’s creative love flowing within you.

May every sacred seed of new life planted within you grow to its full potential.

May you believe that nothing is impossible with God, and let this gift settle into your bones.

Amen
