DAY 4: Ponder the Mystery: A Contemplative Advent Journey
“For a child has been born for us, a son given to us…and he is named Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6-7
PONDER: The prophet speaks of a multi-faceted Divine child coming to the world and being given powerful names and traits. Consider the attributes of each of the Holy names: Wonderful – full of wonder and delight. Mighty – defender, guardian, protector. Everlasting – eternal, always present. Peaceful – without strife, at rest, in unity.
RESPOND: Slowly read the names assigned to the “child born for us,” and consider the attributes of each name. Allow them to speak to your own life reality and notice any reaction or feelings toward each name. Explore beyond what you may have been taught or given by others and allow new light to shine upon these names. What attribute do you most need in your life right now? Take this word or name with you today as you consider all that the day will bring. Carry it as a torch to light the path.
A BLESSING: May the name of Jesus fill you to the fullness of God. May you know wonder and delight over the birth of a Divine child given to you. May you experience the protective, eternal love that leads to lasting peace within. Amen.
