DAY 9: Ponder the Mystery: A Contemplative Advent Journey

DAY 9: Ponder the Mystery: A Contemplative Advent Journey

“And now you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High…and of his kingdom there will be no end…for nothing is impossible with God.”  Luke 1:31-33, 37

PONDER: Conceiving anything, be it a child, an idea, a concept, a business, or a new relationship, is never done alone, but only in collaboration with another. Even when we create something in isolation, the ability and source of creativity flows from the Master Creator. And our expressions of new life remain connected to all that has preceded us and been given to us from others. Just as a plant cannot grow except from the seed given by another plant, and another plant before that, so too we are fertile ground for God-conceived new life to form.

RESPOND: As you come to this meditation, do so by entering through an imagined stream of creativity flowing from the Giver of every good and perfect gift, the source of all life, love, and thought. The stream may take any form – water, wind, clouds, pathways. Spend some time simply enjoying this creative stream. Notice sights and sounds, as well as your response to it all.

Let this stream endow you with new possibilities and the excitement of new life as you explore the “what ifs,” and the invitations to enter new paths. Allow God-given possibilities to take root within you, to send down first tiny roots, then larger ones to stabilize and nurture this new life growing from your deep desire. Listen in stillness to the voice of that desire waiting to be born. You may want to give that desire a name and to bless it as sacred gift, and ascribe words of value to this new possibility. Record your creative stream meditation in your journal as a prayer.

A BLESSING: May you find joy living in the stream of God’s creative love flowing within you. May every sacred seed of new life planted within you grow to its full potential. May you believe that nothing is impossible with God, Amen.
