DAY 17: Ponder the Mystery: A Contemplative Advent Journey
“…The angel said to [the shepherds], “Do not be afraid, for see – I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
PONDER: On so many levels, the birth of Jesus comes as good news as it offers us: great joy…no fear…for all people… promise fulfilled… a Savior born to us! Read these words again and listen to what it means for you today and in this season of Advent.
RESPOND: Enter into this realm of great joy and take a moment to orient yourself to these words. For these few minutes set aside any fear, confusion, frustration, disappointments, boredom or other emotions that may want to block the doorway to the delivery room where Jesus sleeps in a manger. Although you may struggle to feel and experience such joy, make it the prayer of your heart’s desire today. Imagine the presence of the angel before you, shining about you. Bring the images or names of others who need joy-filled good news into this light-filled place of prayer. End your prayer asking for the grace to receive and share this great joy throughout this day, this week, and into the days to come.
A BLESSING: May the light bearing messengers of God’s good news lead you on your path today. May you trust deeply the truth of good news that removes fear and opens hearts. May this good news transform your heart into heavenly praise. Amen.
